MIDFIELD live-wire Steve Bushell urged terrace 'snipers' to hold their fire.
Bushell was among other City men angered by the volley of boos and catcalls aimed at second-half substitutes Scott Jordan and Richard Cresswell.
The young duo were brought on in place of Paul Stephenson and Gary Bull, but, said Bushell, they were given a harsh reception.
"I could not believe it. Crezzie is only 19 and Scott Jordan, who is probably the best passer of the ball at the club, is only 22 and they get booed on to the pitch.
"The fans should be getting behind those lads, not booing them" said Bushell.
City boss Alan Little was also irked by the sour greeting for his replacements.
"Come on, give the boys a chance," he pleaded.
"They are footballers at York City Football Club, but as soon as they come on the pitch they get flak.
"We are all in this together. It's a squad game, but to show disapproval like that is very disappointing."
