A CRUSHING 9-0 win against Indoor Bowls Club has taken City Arms 'B' team to within one point of the lead in York Sam Smith's Darts League division three.Paul Cooper recorded a superb 16 darter and Wayne Mountain chalked up 18.The leaders Trafalgar won 8-1, John Lee out in 21 darts.Martyn Turner's 17 darts was the outstanding performance for Punch 'A' at Woodman. They top division one by five points from Corner House, who were denied a whitewash win by Howden's Steve Burton.Victoria's Bob Greenwood shot a fine 20 darts while Slipper's Dave Martindale gamed in 21 against City Arms 'A', whose Mal Church replied with 21 darts.Volunteer 'A' had Paul Botterill checking on 111 for 21 and Nick Harteveld (Puss) closed on 158.Paul Calpin, then Gordon Foster, gave Flag the start they needed in their York Bass-Fleetways Taxis League match at Shepherds, but Dave Gibbons turned things around with two maximums in 18 darts and Kevin Walton added a fine 19.Lee Ellis (21) and Pete Green (18), especially, shone for Green Tree 'A' but Clifton took all the pairs for the match pairs. Martin Hanan, Rich King took the decider.Mick Addinall had an excellent game for Horseman but the division one leaders were too strong. Chris Thompson (16), Kev Brough (20) and Brian Hill (21) were on top form for Poachers to record their 16th win.Alan Shipley (18) led off Dringhouses to 5-4 win over Groves while Frank George chalked a splendid 17 darter for Beeswing, who were overtaken in the later stages by Slip. Mick Shepherd paired with Phil Wade for the 5-4 win.Competition for the leading places in division two is hotting-up. Second-placed Sun were crushed 9-0 by leaders Osbaldwick, Doug Sutcliffe recording a maximum for the losers.York White Rose Ladies League division one leaders Railway Institute were beaten by City Arms, whose Dawn Elcock won the decider.Chris Ibbeson gamed in 23 to give Eileen Wilkinson the chance of getting Vaults victory at New York. Olive Thompson won the ninth game to get Burton WMC the verdict over Deramore.Palace were 3-0 up but Pam Husband, Milly Mountain, Elsie Blackburn, Irene Hildreth then Doris Richardson ate up the deficit to give Crescent five points.Peggy McBride won the last game to clinch Bowling Club's win at Alice Hawthorn. Puss 'n Boots won 5-4 at Nags Head, Betty Pinder tagging on the decider to excellent wins by Alison Buckley and Clare Dawson (18). Rose Blower settled a 5-4 win for Groves at Locomotive.Pauline Lockwood held her nerve to make it 5-4 to New Earswick against Ackhorne.Copmanthorpe, 4-1 up at Horseman, had their hopes dashed by Dorn Rawlings, Angela Rawlings, Michelle Harrison and Liz Jones.Nancy Moss put King William within a game of victory but Magnet's Cynthia Senior and Carole Coundon had other ideas.
