SECOND-PLACED Leeds No 1 side took full advantage of missed opportunities and a kind rub of the green in defeating York 5-1 in their Yorkshire Snooker League fixture at Little Moor Working Men's Club, Leeds.Keith Lawrence again played first for York, taking on the seasoned Alan Trigg, who played in York for some years in the 1980s.Following a foul of four by Lawrence, Trigg potted the first eight reds with colours on separate visits to open up a 44-0 lead. Lawrence fought back to trail by 25 with 27 points left on the table. Yellow, green and brown went to Lawrence but a cracking long pot on the blue saw Trigg win 61-40.The second frame was one-way traffic. Trigg opened with a 24 break. Lawrence rallied with a 12 but Trigg replied with 21 to lead 50-18. He then make a 41 break to win the second frame 91-18 and put Leeds 2-0 ahead.Ben Purvis, York's 52 break-maker in the match against Sheffield, lost both his frames against Bob Patterson.Patterson led 37-10 in the first frame but in his next three visits to the table Purvis clawed back with points from a foul on green, a potted brown and a fluked blue.He had shot at frame-ball pink with the black waiting, but failed to make the pot and Patterson sank the pink to win 43-26.Patterson took a 25-0 lead in the second frame then Purvis rallied, helped by a 16 break, to trail 38-30 with only the colours left.Yellow, green and brown increased Patterson's lead and when Purvis failed to pot a half-chance blue the Leeds player snapped it up and followed later with pink to win 58-30.York captain John Anderson prevented a whitewash by winning the first of his two frames against Glen Cassidy. The Leeds player took 21-9 lead which Anderson, helped by a 19 break, overturned to go 39-21 in front.Cassidy missed a difficult attempt on brown and left it over the top pocket. Anderson took the chance and added blue and pink to win the frame 54-26.Early in the second frame Cassidy made a 36 break to lead 42-6. Anderson was well placed for black after potting a red in the middle pocket. The York captain sank the black and tried to develop three of the last four reds knowing that he would be on a red over the opposite pocket. Unluckily he glanced off the reds and the white went into the middle pocket. This more or less finished the frame, which Leeds won 81-20.York play their first home game of the season tonight against league leaders Bradford at the Cue Ball Snooker Club, James Street (7.30pm).
