A MAN suffered an electric shock in York today when an explosion in a workshop brought down cables on him.
The incident occurred just before 8.30am at the former ABB site in Holgate Road.
The injured man was one of 10 contractors working on decontaminating part of the former carriageworks site when there was a small blast in a fuse box.
Firefighters and ambulance personnel went to the scene and the injured man was taken to York District Hospital.
Assistant Divisional Officer, Alan Trevena, of Acomb Fire Station, said: "There are a number of contractors doing decontamination work and making the building safe.
"As part of that there were 10 people inside working when one of them suffered injuries as a result of a fire and small explosion in a fuse box.
"We are not sure to what extent his injuries are due to electrocution or as a result of the blast."
