YORKSHIRE hope to sharpen up their fielding this season by adopting a new baseball technique which they will start to practice shortly.
Director of Coaching Martyn Moxon has arranged for the players to be given a demonstration of the baseball style at Headingley on March 5 from Julian Fountain, who is coach to the England youth teams."The picking up and throwing of the ball is different in baseball and the method is becoming more popular in cricket," said Moxon."I believe it has advantages over the traditional style of fielding and should help us improve this very important side of the game."
As well as preparing individual fitness routines for his players, Moxon has been busy arranging for a number of cricket specialists to visit Headingley and address the playing staff during March.England's chairman of selectors David Graveney is pencilled in for March 3 while fellow selector and England A team manager Graham Gooch will visit on March 11.He will watch indoor net sessions in the morning and talk about the mental preparation for matches in the afternoon.
Former England and Derbyshire player Geoff Miller is currently helping Michael Vaughan to improve his off-spin and Moxon has arranged for him to have a couple of sessions with all the spinners on the staff in March.
"I was very impressed with Miller's coaching when I saw him at Lilleshall and I think he can pass on a lot of valuable knowledge to our slow bowlers," said Moxon.
