SESSIONS 'A' have got their eyes firmly set on retaining the Focus Fireplaces York and District Table Tennis League division one championship.
Any chance the chasing pack had of closing the gap at the top vanished when, at the halfway stage of the fixtures, Sessions beat a two-man University team 9-1 to go ten points clear.
Second placed York RI 'C' had an 8-2 win over Bootham Conservative Club 'B' with Vic Smith winning all three for them. Neil Lynch played well for Bootham to win twice.
Graham Hatfield won all three for Fulford Road WMC 'A' in their 8-2 win over York RI 'B'.
In the middle of the table clash Coneysthorpe 'A' overcame York RI 'A' 6-4. Runaway leaders in division two are Coneysthorpe 'B'.
Their 9-1 win over second place Poppleton 'A' takes them 16 points clear at the top, Charles Allenby and Mick Burnett were unbeaten for Coneysthorpe.
GA Life and Bootham Conservative Club 'C' played out a 5-5 draw.
At the other end of the table Railway Associates had a much needed win when they beat Sessions 'B' 8-2, Maureen and Jeff Gott each won three for the Associates. Chris Abbott was unbeaten for INL 'B' when they drew 5-5 with South Bank SC 'A'.
In what seemed the closest division recently, division three, Bootham CC 'E' have now opened up a five point lead at the top, they beat British Telecom 'B' 6-4, despite Barrie Thomas winning all three for Telecom. Poppleton 'B' remain in second place after their 7-3 win over York RI 'G'.
Northern Electric had a good 10-0 win over Bootham Conservative Club 'D' who are now stranded at the bottom. Bob Young won all three for Fulford Road WMC 'B' in their 6-4 win over Shepherds.
In division four, South Bank SC 'B' are now beginning to dominate the division, with David Flahery in good form and being well supported by James Nicholson, Richard Day and Dave Lobley they are well on the way to winning the division. They had a 9-1 win over GA Life 'B' to stay well clear at the top.
Poppleton 'C' are in second place and they beat Fulford Road WMC 'D' 10-0. Terry's had a 7-3 win over Fulford Road WMC 'D'. INL 'C' dropped points to York RI 'F'. Chris Hutchinson won all three for INL, Bill Eason and Dominac Ainger each won two for RI.
Rowntree 'C' had a good 8-2 win over York RI 'G' to leapfrog in the table. Howard Lewis and Richard Falkingham were unbeaten for Rowntree.
It is a two horse race in division five between Poppleton 'D' and INBL 'D'. Poppleton 'D' had a 10-0 win over Fulford Road WMC 'F' while INL 'D' had a 9-1 win over Poppleton 'E'. York RI 'H' lost a little ground when they could only beat Fulford Road WMC 'E' 6-4.
Steve Potter was the star man for RI winning all his games.
It was a good night for York RI 'J' team's Sally Gledhill, who won all three as her team overcame Smith & Nephew 8-2.
