VIKING games and warfare top the bill at York's Jorvik museum this summer.
Visitors can play historic games on huge wooden boards in the city centre throughout most of August.
These include Nine Men's Morris, one of the oldest board games in the world, where players aim to arrange counters in lines of three to remove their opponents' counters from the action.
Hnefatafl, a Viking game similar to chess, where the white team must save their king by moving him to a corner square before the opposing brown team capture him, will also feature in Coppergate Square.
A Viking encampment will take place in Coppergate for the August Bank Holiday weekend, with demonstrations of cooking, crafts and weaponry giving visitors a sense of yesteryear.
Kids have a chance to let off some steam by taking part in Viking warfare, three times a day between July 23 to 31 and August 30 to September 4.
