HUNTERS the estate agent York and District Senior Cricket league divison one leaders Stamford Bridge suffered their second defeat of the season when they were beaten at Catton Road by Hull Zingari.
The Hull side's six-wicket triumph has lifted them into second place, albeit still 57 points behind their opponents.
Lorenzo Ingram's dismissal for a mere 32 represented something of a failure for Stamford's record-breaking batsman but Matt Beckett made amends with 69 and an unbeaten 24 from Ollie Pimlott took Bridge to 180-6 with Anthony Knowles taking 3-42 for the visitors.
Zingari then responded positively with Mark Thompson making 40 and Wade Pelzer 35 before Alistair Markham sealed victory with a good unbeaten knock of 76.
Whitkirk gained a valuable 26 points when they had the better of a draw with fellow strugglers York II, whose innings closed ten short of Whitkirk's 217-6.
Early ruins for Whitkirk came from Craig Shipton 34 and Grant Galloway 29 but the outcome was decided by a good partnership between Stuart Pickles, who was unbeaten with 49, and John Colley who made 36 not out.
York's innings saw two half centuries as Ben Hough hit 75 and Adam Boasman 50 but Harlon Haye sent down an economical 15 overs, during which he claimed 4-41, and York found themselves wanting when their innings ended on 207-6.
Another match-winning bowling display by Dave England enabled Goole Town to record their eighth victory, at the expense of Crayke, and retain the leadership of division two.
England took 5-27 as Crayke struggled to 104 all out with only skipper Jonathon Wright scoring significantly as he made 42. Anthony Gibbins then top scored with 27 as Goole eased to a seven-wicket victory.
Studley Royal made the best score in the division when they reached 237-8 at New Earswick as a prelude to an advantageous draw which boosted the Ripon-based side's chances of promotion, particularly as nearest challengers Sewerby lost.
Four batsmen made their mark for the Royals with Anthony Mackle making 49, Rob Mackle 38, Matt Pickles 33 and Charlie Scratchard 40, Martin Hewitson's 6-99 was his third haul of five or more wickets in successive weeks.
When Earswick replied, effective contributions from Andy Routledge 36, Andy Freeman 30 and John Hetherton 45 ensured their passage to a draw at 175-7 despite Mark Peacock taking 3-49.
The massive margin of victory recorded by Bridlington over Bolton Percy in no way reflected their close proximity in the league table where the coastal outfit leapfrogged their opponents after winning by 215 runs.
Bridlington's run bonanza saw Hafeez Khalid top the show with 161 not out, Richard Lount make 67 and Simon Garton 36 in a total of 296-5 with Danny White being a somewhat reluctant centurion as he took 3-102. Only Jamie Rigby, who made 36, was then able to hold his head high as Bolton capitulated to 81 all out with Sam Edmondson taking 3-40.
