SHAME on the council for allowing the government to manipulate them into putting our elderly people out of their homes they live and care for ("We don't want to leave our homes" July 4).
How disrespectful to our elderly. They should be allowed to live out the rest of their years in their own homes. They have been told the asbestos is not dangerous if it is undisturbed.
Our elderly generation are hard workers who have paid taxes, lived through wars. We should look after them. We pay them a poor pension, we take their homes off them.
If they go into care homes, they are often understaffed by under-paid workers.
Please do not forget we all grow old and die eventually. How would any of you council members like it if you were told to leave your home for whatever reason?
Any rules that are made should always have exceptions.
This rule the Government have made should be one of them, so tell the government we cannot comply as these are our elderly we care for.
And talking of money which it all boils down to, ask them how much have our elderly invested into the millennium dome and how much was it sold for - one pound, did I hear someone say? (Perhaps we should buy it back and "pop" them into there!)
Come on council, again isn't there anyone in there with common sense and/or compassion? We treat our elderly appallingly enough, let them keep their homes until they die if they can look after themselves and each other.
