I WAS heartened by your "Yes! To Clean Air" supplement (July 11). I'm sure that all medical staff at York Hospital support your campaign; but I'm not so sure that the planners realise that the back entrance to the hospital (via Bridge Lane) is a trap for second-hand smoke.
The smoking shelter is half way along the path, between two high walls, and the smell of smoke is trapped in that area.
As a recent patient I have walked through that area recently and found the smoke objectionable.
In addition, a relative whose baby was delivered recently found that the smell of smoke permeated through into the recovery room, despite windows being closed.
This cannot be good practice, and I would like to suggest that the shelter be moved right out into the open air of the car park and away from ward windows.
