I HAVE just read the story "Row over new York homeless centre" (July 15) and I am astounded by City of York Council.
I live next door to Shipton Street school and the council promised me and my husband that we would be kept informed of what was proposed for the use of the school.
No way were we told that a proposal for a hostel for the homeless was being considered.
I think, along with other residents in Shipton Street and surrounding streets, that this idea is utterly preposterous. The school has stood empty for almost three years and could have been used for many better uses, which would have been acceptable by the residents.
The residents will be petitioning against this move. We do not want it at Shipton Street school.
Mr and Mrs Whattam,
Shipton Street, York.
