YORK City face stiff competition if they want to sign former Doncaster Rovers midfielder John McGrath.
It is believed City have offered McGrath a contract for next season but the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, who ended last season at Kidderminster Harriers after leaving Belle Vue in January, is currently on trial with Scunthorpe and is also interesting League Two outfit Peterborough.
Limerick-born McGrath started his professional career with Aston Villa, making three substitute appearances in the Premeirship before joining Doncaster on a free transfer in July 2003.
