On November 19 at Newcastle City Hall, some of the North East's most revered musicians will pay tribute to the monumental, yet oft overlooked, talent of Alan Hull, Lindisfarne's frontman and inspiration, ten years after his tragically early death at 50.
For nearly 20 years the media deafed him out while he did what he did best: write and sing songs. I saw him make at least two "farewell appearances" with Lindisfarne in Birmingham back in the late Seventies and they always brought the house down. On November 19, Alan's songs will be remembered, such as Fog On The Tyne, Run For Home, Lady Eleanor and my favourite, I Wish You Well. Here you get 40 numbers spanning Alan's remarkable career which ended soon after complaining of chest pains while dining with wife Pat. He had been in the recording studio earlier that day. A much under-rated Geordie giant, his glorious music, spanning most styles, lives on.
