FEARS are growing that in-form prop David Bates may have to sit out the bulk of York City Knights' run-in.
The Ireland international suffered a hamstring problem five minutes after coming on as substitute in the win at Swinton two weeks ago and, having made little progress in the two weeks since, he may now need an exploratory operation.
"He's still struggling and needs to go for a scan," confirmed coach Mick Cook.
"It's not been responding (to treatment) and there might be some ligament damage possibly. It might need further investigation."
He added: "It's a bit frustrating for Batesy. He was getting into some of his best form of the year then got injured at Swinton in his first involvement (of the match), but that's contact sport for you."
In better news, fellow prop Craig Forsyth has been coming into form after getting back into the 17 for the last two games.
"Craig has been playing well," said Cook. "He's got himself in good shape and has taken his chance."
The Knights have seven games to go, starting with Sunday's visit of in-form Gateshead Thunder, and currently top the table on points-difference from Dewsbury, whom they face away from home next week.
