TRANSFER-LISTED York City striker Paul Robinson is considering a move to Scottish first division side Ross County.

Robinson played as a trialist for St Johnstone against Forfar on Thursday night but Ross, who finished last season in a higher league position, have emerged as favourites for the former Newcastle United striker's signature after declaring their interest.

The 26-year-old forward is now talking to his family about the move over the weekend and looks poised to leave KitKat Crescent despite having a year left to run on his contract.

Irish club Drogheda have also enquired about Robinson and Macclesfield Town are believed to have made a tentative approach, which has not been followed up with firm interest.

Robinson said: "I played for St Johnstone but they have got a lot of strikers who are similar to me and are looking for a target man. The chance with Ross has also come up and I am giving it serious consideration.

"I'm aware that if I leave York it will give the club the chance to bring in two or three players."

City boss McEwan has, meanwhile, warned former trialist John McGrath that he might have "missed the boat" should he decide he would be interested in a move to KitKat Crescent.

Ex-Aston Villa midfielder McGrath started pre-season with the Minstermen and played in the behind-closed-doors friendly against his former club Doncaster Rovers.

Since then, the 25-year-old Irishman, who ended last season with Kidderminster Harriers, has been touting his services elsewhere but remains a free agent after an unsuccessful trial with Scunthorpe United.

In the meantime, however, McEwan has switched his attentions to other possible midfield targets.

The City manager said: "We invited him to train with us but he wants to try to stay in the League and he also wants a few bob. If he was to come here, he would have to come on our terms and I think he's got to realise he's out of work and finished last season at a club that were relegated to the Conference.

"He's looked elsewhere but, meanwhile, we have started to look at other midfielders so he might have missed the boat."

McEwan admitted he was using this afternoon's friendly against Hartlepool as an opportunity to "make my mind up" on City's batch of trialists.

THE Junior Minstermen's Pro Evolution 4 competition, scheduled for August 9, has been postponed because of a double booking at KitKat Crescent Social Club. A new date is currently being planned.
