Drinkall cheers

Malton and Norton Golf Club assistant James Drinkall was joint winner of the Yorkshire PGA Springhead Park Pro-Am this week.

He shot a three under-par 68 to tie with Joe Townhill (Brough).

It was a great performance by Drinkall (pictured below), who edged out Malton and Norton's professional Steve Robinson, who finished a stroke behind the winners.

Nick Ludell (Selby) was a stroke further back and Richard Bundy (Spaldington) went round in 71.

Champion Lount

ADRIAN Lount is Pike Hills' 2005 club champion after shooting a two-round score of 137.

The victory came on the back of Lount's recent Yorkshire Order of Merit triumph at Bingley, while 16-year-old Chris Lone won the Lott Trophy with a best net score of 129.

A day earlier, Martin Pulleyn's 45 points won the National Society for Cancer Research Charity Stableford competition.

Peter's pride

PETER Jones Junior fired a net 65 to lift the York Golf Club's Crossley Trophy.

Fulford member Jones, playing off a seven handicap, finished one shot ahead of Tony Nicholson (Forest Park), Kevin Graham (Heworth) and club-mate Tony Metcalfe.

James Duckett made it a Fulford double by winning the gross prize with a 71 from a strong field that included 21 category one golfers.

A shot behind, in second place, was Forest Park's David McCarthy on countback from Jim Batt (Fulford).

Promotion quest

FULFORD will be bidding for an immediate return to the first division of the Yorkshire Union Team Championship at the Oaks on August 3.

Steve Dunn, David Leaf, Mike Rudd and Jamie Smith have been picked for the second division event after the club's relegation last year.

Meanwhile, Iain Simpson, who hopes to turn professional one day, fired a three-under-par gross 69 (net 66) to win Fulford's monthly medal by four shots.
