Bottom placed Hovingham pulled off the major shock of the day when they severely dented Sewerby's promotion drive by recording a thrilling one wicket win in a high scoring affair at Sewerby's cliff top ground.
Batting first, Sewerby must have been well confident at tea after Chris Briggs had made 69 and 16-year-old Rob Wilson 42 before an unbroken stand between Shaun Acton (29no) and Adie Long (27no) had taken the total to 237-7.
Stephen Mosey had taken 5-87 for Hovingham, who responded in a positive manner after the break. They were led by Paul Deverell, who made a fine unbeaten 98, while other valuable runs were provided by Alastair Thorpe (30), George Mosey (28) and Tom Lund with 39. Paul Baxter took 4-71 but was unable to prevent Hovingham winning a thriller by one wicket as they made 238-9.

Paul Hemmingway made 54, while other runs came from Matt Williams with 42 and John Redshaw 28. Dave Bell had the best figures for the visitors with 4-65 while Trevor Walton got in on the act with 3-70. Heworth then enjoyed good knocks by Jonathon Draper with 40 and Graham Hogben 43 but Dave Stroughair took 3-44.
However, an unbroken stand then followed which saw Paul Neal make 38 and Andy Parkinson 27, to take Heworth to a five wicket win.
During the week, Stillington's talented youngster Mike Whitwell became the first player to hit a century in the Yorkshire schools competition as he led Easingwold School to their first ever title at Headingley.
The youngster carried on where he left off by making 46 to help his side reach 239-8 when they played hosts to Malton and Old Malton.
He was abetted by two other young players, Ben Drummond, who made 69, and Shaun Speck, who hit 48.
Malton's best two bowlers were Shane Bonsor with 3-85 and Chris Brigham 3-68 and the duo both featured with the bat when their side replied with Bonsor making 35 and Brigham 34no. John Foxton hit 51 and Andrew Raine 28 as Malton earned a draw at 188-8 with Speck also proving his all-round ability by taking 3-68.
