Masta Plasta, who gave York-based jockey Robert Winston his first Royal Ascot winner on Knavesmire last month, heads to Sussex tomorrow with every chance of following-up on the opening day of Glorious Goodwood.
The Howard Johnston-trained speedster goes for the Betfair Molecomb Stakes.
Winner of two of his three starts, Masta Plasta confirmed what a class act he is when running out an impressive winner of the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot.
That success has earned him a penalty tomorrow, meaning that he will have to concede weight all round, but that task should not be beyond him.
He certainly has the right jockey once more. Winston rode his 100th winner of the year at York on Saturday and made it 101 at Pontefract yesterday on Zabeel Palace.
Newmarket trainer Mark Tompkins, who had two winners at York over the weekend, has excellent prospects of landing the £125,000 Betfair Cup (better known as the Lennox Stakes) with Steenberg.
A high-class performer who has finished in the frame in each of his four starts this term, Steenberg was a close-up third over six furlongs in France on his latest outing.
He steps up to seven furlongs tomorrow but has won over this distance and should go well tomorrow, especially as the forecast showery weather should ease the ground nicely for him. Joe Fanning has the mount on my Nap selection.
Middleham-based Fanning will also be aboard Prince of Light, trained by Mark Johnston, in the Turf Club Maiden Stakes.
Prince of Light made a promising debut at Doncaster recently to finish third, beaten by less than two lengths by the smart Ajigolo. Sure to be all the better for that experience, Prince of Light can triumph here.
