WORKING away from home a lot I don't keep up with the Evening Press as much as I should like or I would have seen the constant messages about parking in York city centre.
I live in Sutton-on-the-Forest and ventured into town with my family for an evening meal and parked in Davygate, where parking has been allowed since I started driving 20 years ago.
I was spotted by an observant traffic warden who gave me a ticket at 7.42pm on a Saturday evening.
I was puzzled because only two cars out of five had tickets and the other cars were not displaying disabled badges or anything else to excuse them from the treatment I received.
My £40 family meal turned into a £70 family meal, £100 if I don't pay within 14 days.
In future I shall not be driving into York any more, preferring to stay local or take a short drive to Easingwold where parking is free at night, thus depriving York traders of revenue and me of a wider choice of restaurants.
