Soviet Song, below her best when beaten at Royal Ascot at York last month, bounced back with a vengeance at Newmarket three weeks ago and now looks set to take Glorious Goodwood by storm.
James Fanshawe's stable star is one of 12 runners poised to face the starter in tomorrow's £300,000 Cantor Spreadfair Sussex Stakes and is strongly fancied to add another Group 1 win to her impressive portfolio.
The five-year-old, who needed her comeback outing at Royal Ascot, where she finished third, was a totally different proposition in the Falmouth Stakes last time, winning this Group 1 event for the second successive year by a decisive two-and-a-half lengths from Alexander Goldrun.
The bookies are running scared of Soviet Song, who is a best-priced 11-8 to follow-up tomorrow. With Johnny Murtagh, her regular jockey, in the saddle, she will be very hard to beat.
Middleham trainer Mark Johnston has good prospects in the Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes with Black Charmer, the mount of Joe Fanning.
Although not in the same league as Shamardal, winner of this race last year for Johnston, Black Charmer is making solid progress through the ranks and looks capable of making a bold bid for this Group 2 prize.
Moonshine Beach is napped to lift the opening Goodwood Handicap over a gruelling two miles and five furlongs.
The seven-year-old, a winner at Warwick two outings ago, has since been beaten on the same course, but that defeat came in a race which failed to provide him with an adequate stamina test. The same cannot be said of tomorrow's contest.
The David Nicholls-trained Wanchai Lad, a good third to Corridor Creeper at Newbury on Sunday, looks to have good prospects of landing the Zuhair Handicap, a race named in honour of Nicholls' former course specialist, who died in June.
At Musselburgh, Muzdaher goes for his second win in the £10,000 Gerrard Investment Management Handicap.
The three-year-old, trained by Mark Johnston, bolted home by eight lengths in a maiden race at Carlisle 12 days ago and looks capable of holding his own in handicap company.
Compton Classic could prove the answer to the Musselburgh News Handicap over five furlongs.
Jim Goldie's three-year-old finished a creditable fourth at Ayr last week and, although still seeking his first win, looks capable of landing an ordinary contest, such as this lowly-rated race.
Patricia Philomena is worth another chance in the East Lothian News Handicap.
Although she proved slightly disappointing when only sixth at Ayr last week over a longer distance, David Barron's mare had previously turned in a couple of sound efforts on this course where she has won in the past. Promising apprentice Greg Fairley handily reduces her weight by 7lb tomorrow.
Senor Bond has the best credentials in the Scottish Racing Academy Selling Stakes.
