YOUR report about the consultation with tenants living in Discus bungalows, seems to have given the wrong impression about the council's intentions (July 4).
Major works have to be carried out to the bungalows to make sure they are fit to live in. We estimate this would cost about £28,000 a bungalow - about £19,000 more than we would need to spend on a conventional building.
Doing nothing is not an option and if the decision was made to refurbish the existing homes I'm afraid it would be impossible for the tenants to stay there while the work is being done.
At this stage we have an open mind on all the options - that is what the consultation is about. If people do have to move, our aim is to continue to support them with housing and social services so they can retain their independence.
Our main concern at the moment is the impact this news will have had on the tenants.
We believe in being honest with people about the reality of the situation but I realise the information will have come as a surprise to many residents.
Recognising that, we have decided to contact each tenant individually, once again, to see if they need more support during this difficult time.
