YORK Cricket Club captain Marcus Wood should return to action this weekend after his holiday.
But Sunday's Black Sheep Brewery Yorkshire Champions Trophy semi-final against Pudsey St Lawrence is likely to be as hot as the Algarve beaches he has left behind.
Former Yorkshire batsman Garry Fellows is captain of the Bradford League side and is supported by an ex-Yorkshire bowler, left-arm quickie Paul Hutchinson, while overseas player Faisal Irfan has also been among the wickets.
York's cause is not helped by Rob Flack's continuing injury while Mark Bell and Tom Bartram are unavailable.
Pudsey St Lawrence have a great pedigree and rich history, having produced a string of outstanding players, including Sir Leonard Hutton.
Tomorrow York will be looking to consolidate their position at the top of the Yorkshire ECB Premier League when they visit Driffield.
The Woldsmen are fairly well down the ladder but have the habit of making life difficult for the more successful clubs. Nevertheless, York have a good record against Driffield.
The remaining Myers and Burnell Cup semi-final between Easingwold and York will take place on Thursday, August 4 at Clifton Park. Clifton Alliance are already through to the final which will be played on August 7 (1.30pm start).
