YORK Cricket Club won't be lifting the Black Sheep Brewery Yorkshire Champions Trophy this summer after being knocked out by Pudsey St Lawrence in the semi-finals at Clifton Park yesterday.

The visitors carried off the spoils by a margin of 16 runs after York asked the Bradford League side to bat.

Nick Kay grabbed an early wicket but Mick Whitehead and Mark Robertshaw put on 98 which was augmented by an even time 45 from former Yorkshire batter Garry Fellows.

James Smith added a fine 61 as the York bowling wilted somewhat despite a fine maiden spell from Jonny Bairstow.

The Pudsey total of 271 in 50 overs seemed a big ask but York were ahead of the required rate until the 47th over when their innings subsided in a plethora of run outs as they tried to match the run rate against tight bowling from the visitors' pacemen, Faisal Irfan and Paul Hutchinson.

All York's batsmen played well but it required one of them to convert a good knock into a major innings to ensure success. As it was, York, missing three bowlers, had the satisfaction of giving the Bradford side a good run for their money.

York's match at Driffield on Saturday was called off without a ball being delivered and the rest of the Yorkshire ECB Premier League fixtures suffered a similar fate so the League rankings remain unchanged.
