IN response to the concern about manure on city streets, I was reminded of remarkable, now deceased, Mrs Amy Oldfield.
She wrote to the Evening Press about ten years ago expressing the same concern. At that time there was a horse-drawn carriage city tour man who stabled his animal beyond Stockton Lane, where Amy lived. A few days after her letter was published her second one was carried, which read something like this: "Yesterday I found a pile of horse manure at the end of my drive. I didn't know that horses could read!"
