Matthew Wood and Joe Sayers went run crazy against Bangladesh 'A' at Headingley yesterday before Yorkshire declared on 357-2 in 80 overs on the first day of the three-day match.

The two openers put on 272 together which was Yorkshire's highest first wicket stand since Craig White and Wood added 309 in the Roses match at Old Trafford three years ago.

Wood remained unbeaten on 202 off 252 balls with 28 fours and two sixes after registering the third first class double century of his career, while Sayers cracked 115 off 201 balls with 16 fours and a six.

Sayers had a couple of slices of luck early on when he was put down in the slips and by the wicketkeeper and Wood survived a chance to slip on 95, but they dominated Bangladesh's six-man attack for the rest of the time.

Wood reached his century out of 189-0 after facing 171 balls and hitting 15 fours and he was soon followed to the landmark by Sayers, who received 185 balls and also struck 15 boundaries.

The end for Sayers came soon after tea when he missed a big drive at Tushar Imran and was bowled, the stand being the joint 20th highest for the first wicket in the club's history.

Michael Lumb was bowled leg stump swinging at Shahadat Hossain but there was no restraining Wood, who went to his double century with a big six over long on, his fourth 50 having taken him only 28 balls.

Chris Taylor was unbeaten on 14 after helping Wood put on an unbroken 64 in seven overs.

Yorkshire opened their bowling with John Blain and their Australian-born trialist Mitchell Claydon, who plays league cricket for Middlesbrough, and there was just time before the close for Blain to trap Nafees Iqbal lbw, Bangladesh finishing on 25-1.
