BUTCHER'S daughter Nicola Bell will not be cutting into a traditional iced cake at her wedding tomorrow.

Instead, the 30-year-old, from Acomb, will be slicing through one of her dad's prized pork pies.

Nicola was weaned on York butcher Ged Bell's delicious creations, and always wanted a special three-tier pie-cake making for her big day.

"I grew up eating pork pies. I've always loved them," she said.

"I followed my dad to all the pie-making competitions across the country, so I can tell a good one from a bad one. I'm not keen on wedding cake so I thought: 'What could be better than a pork pie?' Dad's are the best."

Nicola's husband-to-be, Charlie Adie, 32, was recently featured in the Evening Press after playing rugby for the Estonia national team - during his stag weekend. Our story was reported all over the world, with Charlie doing countless interviews for major TV channels and radio stations.

"It's been absolute madness since the story was in the Evening Press," he said. "It's created a great build-up to the wedding."

The wedding cake has three-tiers and two miniature models of Nicola and Charlie, who is holding a rugby ball and wearing a kilt, as he originally comes from Aberdeen.

The couple are tying the knot at Hazlewood Castle and going to Italy on their honeymoon.

Guests will be tucking into fish and chips, haggis and sausage and mash at the wedding meal.

Ged, pictured below, who has displayed the cake in his shop in Middlethorpe Grove, Dringhouses, said: "Nicola always wanted a pork pie wedding cake and I was proud to make it for her. My customers think it's fantastic."
