A NORTH YORKSHIRE resort is one of the favourite spots to "wish you were here" from, as Royal Mail chiefs predicted that a record number of postcards would be sent this year.

The prediction comes despite the increased popularity of emails and texts, the Royal Mail predicted.

About 134 million postcards will be delivered in the summer months, including an expected 27 million on August 12, which is set to be one of the hottest days of the year.

The number of postcards sent by people on holiday in this country has increased by ten per cent in recent years, according to research.

Postcards from abroad are set to increase by 15 per cent this year, according to the report.

Brighton was the most popular place from which to send a postcard, followed by Scarborough, Bournemouth, Blackpool and Skegness.

Patrick O'Neill, of Royal Mail, said: "Not only can a postcard be kept and re-read, it carries a feel-good factor for the recipient.

"Picking up a pen and writing to someone still means more to people, as it takes thought and effort and shows loved ones you care."
