THE solidarity of opposition to the demolition of Haxby Memorial Hall and the old school house demonstrated by a petition attracting more than 1,000 signatures must be a clear and definite message to the trustees that it is not an option to pursue and will fail to gain approval of Haxby residents.
Financial resources to obtain costs for alternatives must now be channelled into the accepted need for refurbishment of the present building, together with utilising the vacant land at the rear to construct the additional facilities expected to be available for future use by the community.
I won't repeat the already-expounded valid arguments opposing demolition except to reiterate the view that with resolve old buildings can be successfully restored.
Haxby does not want a repeat of the Ashgrove Development within the conservation area.
