WITH reference to your story Keep Out (August 1), which mentions proposals to keep HGV trucks out of York, I am a retired long-distant HGV driver of 50 years haulage experience.
I suspect that those who are talking are obviously car or van drivers and have not the faintest idea about the workings of road haulage.
In my experience I found that many a time I was held up at my delivery point and blocked by cars.
All the powers that be should get out of their offices and see all the cars parked up for the day doing nothing until the owners get in them to drive back home. But where are the trucks?
I will tell you... they are many miles away from York.
I honestly think that there are far too many cars trying to get in a small place. That is the problem.
