RECORD-BREAKING try ace Peter Fox is keeping his feet on the ground as York City Knights move within two points of securing a place in National League One next season.
The 20-year-old winger blasted his way into the record books yesterday after bagging four tries in a 60-12 romp over London Skolars at Huntington Stadium.
The Leeds academy youngster, who has blazed through defences all season during his loan spell at the Knights, finally moved past Chris Langley's record of 21 set last year having levelled it against Dewsbury two weeks ago with two tries in each half in a man-of-the-match performance which included helping Dan Potter to a hat-trick.
He said: "It's always nice breaking records but as a team you have to be there for each other and the main part of my game is backing up others.
"It was a brilliant win for us. We wanted to get our team performance right and second half we did."
With just one win now needed for the Knights from their last three matches to clinch the much-wanted promotion, the temptation could be there to take their feet off the gas.
But Fox was confident that would not be the case. He said: "We just have to keep our heads down and not get carried away with anything.
"We set our goals based on what we have to do and as long as we play the game like we have done all season I believe we will reach them.
"We have got a really big team spirit. There's a lot of new players that came in yesterday and did the club proud. That's what's brilliant about them because it's all about team spirit."
Austin Buchanan returned to the opposite flank for his first start since a horror arm-break on the opening match of the Northern Rail Cup campaign at Castelford, and Fox said he was pleased to see him back with two tries to boot.
He said: "I always like to compete with Austin and he boosts me up and he boosts the team up just by playing. It's a bonus that he is a try-scorer as well."
There may be more tries in Fox yet this season, but he will not be driving down any pre-meditated targets.
He added: "I'm going to play my heart out for the next few matches without putting any pressure on myself. I just want to finish on a high."
