POLICE cordoned off part of a York street after reports that a local woman had been involved in an incident on Saturday night - while hundreds of clubbers were gathered nearby.
A detective said the 34-year-old local woman had allegedly been involved in an incident between 10.30pm and 11pm in the area of George Hudson Street, near Nexus, a late-night bar.
Officers guarding the scene yesterday said it had nothing to do with Nexus. The area outside the club was cordoned off all yesterday.
The bar remained open as usual until 2.30am on Saturday, with bosses saying they were none the wiser that anything out of the ordinary had happened on the street outside until police arrived on Sunday.
Security manager Neil Brolly said 12 door staff had been on duty outside Nexus and its sister bar, McMillan's, in nearby Rougier Street.
Deputy manager Michael Storey said: "It's nothing to do with the bar. I didn't know anything about it until this (Sunday) afternoon."
Police have appealed for witnesses. Anyone with information should phone 0845 6060247.
