Poppleton completed the double over York and need to win their outstanding match against Fulford to take the IT Sports York Mixed Tennis League division one title.

Both teams have been unable to field their strongest teams all season and the trend continued as Poppleton beat York 63-45.

York were missing Andy Cooke and Margaret Whitehead while Steve Smith and Wendy Shepherd have missed all the season through injury.

Poppleton were missing City of York champion John Moore for the York clash but their youthful side, led by captain Belinda Turnbull and partner Michael Binns, triumphed.

Fulford and Copmanthorpe will be promoted from division three after Fulford's most consistent couple, Jenny Rowland and Dave Bradley, put in a match-winning performance at Sherburn.

Copmanthorpe had a much tougher encounter against Sutton on Derwent but came out on top.

York had a much needed win against relegated Civil Service with Caroline White and Ron Bell just outscoring Peter Turner and Christine Place.

Wilberfoss have secured promotion from division four with a win against Appleton Roebuck. York are pushing for the second promotion place after they sealed Poppleton's relegation.

Strensall surprised Fulford in division six and kept their divisional status alive.

Fulford still need one more point to gain promotion along with York, who had a close meeting with Appleton Roebuck, who are also trying to stave off the second relegation place.

Wilberfoss have taken the division seven title with victory against Sutton on Derwent and will be joined by either Nestl Rowntree or Tadcaster.

Nestl lost at Tadcaster, who have finished their programme on 18 points and know that Nestl still have two games to play.

Despite losing to Wheldrake, Riccall bounced back to save themselves from the drop and relegate opponents Rowntree Park, whom they beat 72-36, with Judith Bray and Paul Elmhirst winning 32 games.

Sutton on Derwent escaped the drop with a win at relegated Civil Service, who had to concede 24 games because of an injury to Alan Reynolds.

Fulford will pick up the division eight silverware after two wins in a week. They started with victory at Escrick where Kath Ekers and Ben Robinson scored 32 games and then sealed the title with victory at Cawood.

Dunnington, the other promoted side, were in good form against Bishopthorpe with 32 games from Sue Jackson and Dave Carver leaving Bishops deep in relegation trouble.

Next Generation will take their third trophy in three years since entering the league after beating Stamford Bridge in the division nine title decider.

Selby have finished the summer strongly with two wins against Strensall and Appleton Roebuck. Appleton then beat Strensall leaving Stillington favourites to join Strensall to be relegated as they still have Next Generation to play.

Alne lost their unbeaten run in division 11 after Fiona Mackay and Colin Robinson inspired Poppleton to victory but then went down to Appleton Roebuck.
