Heworth ARLC opened their pre-season account with a decent run-out against East Leeds, albeit in defeat.
The Villagers, of National Conference League division two, lost 20-12 at home to the division one outfit in their first game under new coaches Jimmy Rothwell and Steve Smith.
Forward Dave Varley and teenage winger Matt Derry got the tries, with youngster Mike Welsh and Ian Jones adding conversions.
Club spokesman Ken Sykes said: "It was a good work-out. It was quite competitive but played in good spirit.
"Conditions weren't too good but we had a good day. We missed a few chances but results are not that important at this stage."
The unlimited rolling subs agreement allowed Heworth to give run-outs to 25 players from their first and 'A' team squads.
The first team now entertain Milford in a friendly next Saturday (kick off 2.30pm), while the 'A' team are also hoping to organise a game.
Heworth's Conference season kicks off on September 3 away to Widnes St Marie's.
