BILLY McEwan has warned his players not to get carried away after last night's 4-1 victory at Southport.

The York City manager hailed it "a very, very pleasing night" but also expressed his disappointment with the Conference North champions' equalising goal just three minutes after the visitors had taken an early lead.

McEwan also took heed of Grays Athletic's 6-1 mauling of Gravesend and Northfleet with the runaway Conference South title winners the Minstermen's next hosts on Saturday.

He said: "It was a very, very pleasing night. We broke quickly and all the boys up front played well but it was a good team performance.

"There were obviously more positives than negatives and you can't be too critical but there are areas we need to polish up on. I was very disappointed with the goal we conceded.

"It was a poor and crazy one to concede just after taking the lead and we need to work on that and learn from it. We can't get carried away with the result because, if we do, we will get stuffed at Grays on Saturday.

"That is a massive game for us. It's another away match and a long trip. They walked out of their league last season and we will need the same attitude and application."

Former player-manager Chris Brass is expected to play for the reserves this afternoon at Lincoln City.

City boss McEwan has stressed that Brass does not feature in his plans this season and is keen to offload the former Burnley defender from his wage bill.

Farhad Afandiyev, Graeme Law, James Dudgeon, Dave Merris, Lev Yalcin, Dave Pounder, Ryan Mallon, Ashley Winn and Michael Staley are also expected to feature in the 2pm kick off.
