I DO not think the council's plan to reduce the frequency of domestic waste collection is a very well thought out idea.
The grey bins emptied once a fortnight will inevitably contain scraps of meat and other food which will create an increased health hazard, flies and smell, especially in hot weather.
There will be a temptation for people to put domestic waste into the green bins when the grey ones are full.
How can this be monitored?
There will be an increase in the number of households wishing to dispose of their excess waste.
People without the transport to move it are effectively discriminated against, and those with cars who take it to the local tip will burn fuel as they do so, thereby counteracting any benefits to the environment.
And, of course, it may also lead to increased illegal tipping of rubbish in lay-bys etc.
What about households with little or no garden - will they get a green bin too?
