YORK City Knights are likely to face Widnes in National League One next season after the Vikings were assured of a bottom-two spot in engage Super League.
However, the Cheshiremen are clinging to a hope that the winners of the NL1 Grand Final will not meet the off-field criteria for the top tier.
The Rugby Football League will announce which NL1 clubs are eligible for promotion on August 31.
Leigh Centurions are already down, with their place in Super League being taken by French newcomers Les Catalans.
