ON the new waste collection system, who is paying for all these extra bins?
Can I assume that those without gardens will get a rebate on their council tax payments based on the fact that they will only receive one collection of household waste every other week?
Will arrangements be put in place to collect the over-abundant rubbish during the Christmas festivities?
Will there be a collection of garden waste during the winter months when less material will be forthcoming?
I have been informed by Elizabeth Wray (York waste project manager) that we must be more selective in the way we shop ie avoid heavily packaged goods. Unfortunately the consumer has little choice considering that many items such as household cleaning goods are sold in plastic bottles and/or containers.
The argument is far too simplistic.
The consumer is being made the scapegoat and it is the manufacturers who should be the ones targeted.
I strongly feel that this is yet another badly conceived idea and will only lead to fly tipping (never mind the health and safety issues).
