Fulford III have won their club's second title this season by lifting the division three crown in the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League.

Victory against York ensured they finished top of the pile with the unbeaten Govind Baker and Jenny Rowlands leading they way while Daniel Bruce and Eleanor Crooks and finishing with an 11-1 win well supported by captain Steve Price and partner Linda Irving.

York battled back a couple of nights later to win at Bubwith to maintain their divisional status after Sherburn finished their matches with a win against Civil Service. Charlie Dixon and Jackie Ritchie led Civil Service home against Wheldrake with son Graham Dixon and Zoe Manton only a couple of games behind.

Poppleton confirmed their division one title, which they last won in 2002, with a final win against Fulford II, who are one of five teams fighting to stay up.

The relegation issue will be resolved when Wigginton and York II play and after points awarded for matches conceded by Tadcaster, who have had a difficult season through illness to their key players, are taken into consideration.

Rob Osborne and Sue Jacklin ensured Castlegarth ended as division two champions and the only team with a 100 per cent winning record by beating Rowntree Park.

Bishopthorpe have snatched the second promotion spot from York in division four with two wins against relegated teams Poppleton and Stillington. Paul Cook and Jane Parkin won all their rubbers for Bishopthorpe after York fell at the final hurdle against Cawood.

The new pairing of Stuart Robertson and Sandra Burley sealed Wigginton's division five title success with victory over Cawood. That result also meant Heworth went up.

Tollerton finished strongly with two wins to relegate New Earswick and Wistow who lost to New Earswick.

Led by captain Aimee Linfoot and partner John Logan, York won against Rufforth to lift the division six trophy.

Wetherby Castlegarth finished with a win but are waiting for outstanding matches to be played by rivals Fulford, who have two games still to play against teams both fighting for divisional status.

Cliffe's Bruce Parker and Mary Pepper threw their team a lifeline with a win against Poppleton.

Colin Brooks and Joan Dunwell have put Wheldrake into a showdown with their final opponents Nestl for the second promotion place after they defeated champions Wilberfoss. Nestl eased passed Riccall and still have games to be awarded for a conceded match.

Fulford and Dunnington are sat at the top of division eight with both teams winning promotion.

All last year's trophy winners should return the trophies to IT Sports by September 3 for engraving.
