REGARDING the proposals for the memorial hall in Haxby, couldn't the trustees consider what was done to what is now the Jorvik Medical Practice in Stonebow?
Here, the developers retained the front and one end faade of what was the old Woolpack pub and developed the back of the building.
They have thus retained part of York's heritage, a fine-looking building and have a modern medical practice as well.
Finally, if they want to see what a predominantly glass modern building, looks like among traditional brick-built surroundings, have a look in Horseman Avenue, off Cemetery Road, at the building that has replaced the one damaged by fire.
