THE two-horse race between Stamford Bridge and Langtoft for the Yorkshire County Flat Green Bowls Association District No 5 Triples League championship could not be closer.
Bridge, with one game to play, are two points ahead of Langtoft who have, arguably, the more difficult games against Driffield and Scalby. Stamford's game against Ayton is a must win for stuggling Ayton who are locked on 66 points with Snainton.
Middleton and South Cliff A are assured of promotion from division two but the relegation issues are still to be resolved.
The bottom line is that Stewarts (66 points), Cayton (61), Stamford (61) and Hutton Cranswick (60) all must win their remaining match and hope the other three teams lose theirs. The key match is Stamford's clash against Stewarts.
Ayton 'B', already sure of promotion from division three, need two points from their last game to become division champions. South Cliff 'B' are also promoted.
All games to be played by Sunday, September 3.
Shipton have stormed to the Tockwith and District Village Bowls League and cup double.
The division one champions hammered Tockwith 104-56 in the League Cup final.
League president Don Mawtus presented the trophies.
Rinks scores (Tockwith names first): R McGlone 17, Ian Hodge 23; Ray Clarke 12, Judy Abel 32; Don Moss 12, Tony Abbott 26; Margaret Moss 15, Kevin Fort 23.
