I'M pleased to see a reader highlighting the problems caused by cannabis use (August 22), but the dangerous effect of this drug on the mind and body is really just the tip of the iceberg.
In reality, drug trafficking (more than taking drugs) poses the greatest threat to society in that it leads directly to prostitution, theft, mugging, burglary and extortion. This is because most drug addicts live beyond their means and often have to resort to crime in order to satisfy the drug barons' demand for money. It's a horrible catch-22 situation.
Clearly, therefore, drug trafficking not only threatens to undermine stability in our urban areas but hinders the social development of the country as a whole.
Draw your own conclusions as to what the future holds once the Government legalises cannabis, which it will.
