IN reply to Simon Berger's letter 'Great show but dreary delays' (August 24), my family also attended the Yorkshire Air Show at Elvington on Sunday.
We arrived early, at 8.30am, and enjoyed a lovely visit to the museum in the morning, before the air show started at 1pm.
It was fantastic, the only grumble being the Muppet glider pilots who wrecked the Red Arrows Display, once again by ignoring the basic rules of their flying licence. Will these pilots be prosecuted?
At about 4pm the organisers asked the crowd not to rush to the cars but to stay and enjoy the evening.
We visited the trade stands then went to the beer tent for an hour (the driver was not drinking). As a result we were home on Tadcaster Road by 7pm.
It may be a good idea to keep the museum and all its excellent catering facilities open until later into the evening. This would encourage the spectators to stay on site longer, spend more money and reduce the congestion on the only exit.
As for Mr Berger, I can only assume, he adopted the same Muppet mentality of the glider pilots - this space is mine and it's time to go, thus contributing to the gridlock.
We had the best day out, thank you.
