AS a former Shipton Street resident, I am writing to express my shock and dismay at York City (our "community" football club) and their support for the Arc Light homeless centre project planned for the site of the old Shipton Street school.
This is nothing more than a kick in the teeth for the local residents who have supported the club for many years.
Granted, not every Shipton Street and Newborough Street resident will have stood on the terraces, but they have offered their support by having the inevitable disruption of not being able to park, rubbish left on the streets and by having football fans charging down their streets. And granted, the latter hasn't happened for a number of years, but it has been a long-term partnership.
I can see the club wants to be seen to be doing the right thing and helping the community but come on, City you need to consider the local community first and foremost on this occasion, especially when you plan to move grounds anyway.
