A THREE-WAY tie is possible as the Yorkshire County Bowls Association District No 5 Triples League reaches its conclusion.
The division one title hinges on the remaining two games to be played.
Stamford Bridge, who have completed their programme, have 113 points, while on Tuesday Langtoft, who need the maximum ten to total 113, are at home to Snainton.
The next day, Ayton entertain Seamer. The hosts need two points to avoid relegation, while Seamer need all ten to draw level with Stamford and, possibly, Langtoft. In the event of a tie, the leading places would be determined by shots difference.
In division two, winners Middleton underlined their supremacy by beating second-placed South Cliff 'A' 10-0.
The District Club Knockout Final is to be played between Stewarts and Stamford Bridge on Saturday at Swinton Bowling Club (2pm start).
Stewarts dominated the first 17 years of the event, which started in 1967, with nine victories, including a hat-trick from 1970-1972. The last and tenth time they won the cup was in 1991. Stamford Bridge have one victory to their name and that was in 2000.
The No 5 District's annual meeting will be on Wednesday, September 21, at Ryedale Indoor Bowling Club (7.30pm start). Each club is requested to send two delegates to attend the meeting for which resolutions can be submitted in writing to the secretary up until September 12.
Meanwhile, York and District Private Clubs Bowls League finals day is on Sunday at Selby BC (10am start).
The action starts with the semi-finals of the Champion of Champions competition. Clubs involved are Dunnington 'A' , the champions of section one, who beat Bishopthorpe, champions of section five, 75-21 in the preliminary round, Bert Keech (section two champions), Stillington (section four champions) and Boroughbridge (section six champions), who beat Easingwold (section three champions) 56-38 in the preliminary round.
The final will be played in the afternoon alongside the final of the Knock Out Trophy between York Railway Institute and Sheriff Hutton or North Duffield 'A'.
RI made the final after beating Dunnington 'A' 67-39.
The league is open to any bowls club within a 17-mile radius of York who bowl on a private green. For an application to join, or for details, contact league secretary S Batty on 01904 707610.
