I AM 100 per cent in favour of recycling. I compost all the waste I can in my garden.
I am astounded that we are not able to put compostable waste such as food scraps etc in the green bin.
Why not?
If the green bin is going to be restricted to grass cuttings (I already compost), twigs etc (I compost), hedge trimmings (I compost) my green bin will be empty most of the time.
Who cuts their grass or trims their hedge in winter? From October to March the green bins will be empty.
My grey bin is more than half full (never full because I recycle all I can, including cardboard etc) each week which means that if the council is going to only empty it every other week I shall not have enough space in it so I have requested another.
I have a house with four active people who will inevitably produce a quantity of waste that cannot be recycled because of the packaging on modern goods.
If the council is going to stick to this plan it is essential it accepts a small amount of extra waste properly bagged and placed alongside the grey bin.
Although well intentioned this is a very badly thought through process.
