YORK Cricket Club's fall from grace in the Yorkshire League continued with a seven-wicket loss at Cleethorpes.
It left Harrogate, emphatic nine-wicket victors over Scarborough at St George's Road, as champions and consigned York to second place.
Despite a Simon Mason half-century, York could not break free from the shackles of West Indian Test star Sherwin Campbell.
By his standards, Campbell has had a pretty disappointing season but his fine all-round performance was too good for York.
Accurate and penetrative, he tied York down just as Marcus Wood's side looked likely to post a useful total.
In the end, their 197-9 appeared puny as Will Kirby and Campbell put on 100 for the first wicket in only 20 overs.
The Caribbean ace went on to smash 17 boundaries, including two sixes. Nick Kay eventually snared him and added the wicket of Eddie Carlton but it was too late to influence the result.
York lost by six wickets in yesterday's Black Sheep Champions of Champions Trophy final. A report and scoreboard of that game will appear in tomorrow's Evening Press.
