I BELONG to the responsible 60 per cent of York residents who use the council's existing doorstep recycling facility each week and I welcome most initiatives the council may introduce to encourage further recycling.
However, I can not believe that they have chosen to recycle garden waste when most York gardens are either courtyards or small to medium in size.
Our family may fill this bin on only two weeks of the year.
The council is effectively asking us as individuals to seek out places to recycle more of our rubbish and, in the process, increase our "carbon output" as we will inevitably use our cars to transport rubbish to the tip/car park recycling facilities.
How much more sensible it would have been for the council to introduce a bin for recycling plastics and cardboard. These two elements form a large proportion of our waste and it would be great to be able to recycle more of our waste in a convenient doorstep weekly pick up. I have emailed the council to ask why they cannot instead have doorstep recycling facilities for plastic and cardboard instead of garden waste, and I would encourage responsible minded citizens who want to recycle, but are disappointed by the council's latest idea, to do the same: recycling.team@york.gov.uk.
