I READ with horror that the new Archbishop of York described the Church of England as "institutionally racist" (August 30). I am a member of the Church of England and I and, I imagine, many, many more) resent that remark.
I have travelled widely in England and abroad and I have always found the Church of England welcoming to all races and creeds, especially caring for Africa and all its problems, the sick, the needy and doing such good work in their communities.
If what the archbishop is saying is true, how is it he has been able to rise so high in the church?
The tag "institutionally racist" is abhorrent - mud sticks and, in this case, is so wrong. Archbishop you have caused grave offence - does your high office allow you to say sorry?
