ON no account must the Haxby Memorial Hall building be demolished. It must remain as it is because it was given in trust to the people of Haxby and also commemorates 36 pupils who died in two world wars. It is also in a conservation area.
In the past, we have seen far too much ad lib planning permission given to proposed buildings in Haxby, of which the apartments next to the post office are one example.
Outline planning permission was given for them and then the excuse was that, because it had been granted, it could not be repealed.
The building went ahead. I wonder who made a "last buck or two" from this development.
The other building that comes to mind which was demolished, in not so recent years, was the original Haxby Hall.
The memorial hall must not have any planning permission given to it, never mind only outline permission. It must remain as it is for the people of Haxby only to decide its future, not planners and prospective property developers.
