AFTER all the false dawns, trials and tribulations, York City really do appear to be at the start of something good.

I applaud Billy McEwan's attitude and caution. After all, football has an awful reputation of destroying dreams in an instant.

Not so at the moment. From the kick-off against Altrincham the team seemed in charge of the game and the fans witnessed a good professional performance.

Five goals after an age of watching games when the team did not muster five shots in an entire match. No wonder a bit of a resurgence is appearing.

Even though it was the Conference's biggest crowd on the day, the spectacle warranted 3,000-plus and I think Mr McEwan deserves it. He very nearly turned his back on the club way back in March when he wasn't sure whether he wanted the task in front of him. All I can say on behalf of the supporters is thank you for staying and putting pride back to the battered faithful of the terraces.

The players are showing the signs of confidence only good management and effort can achieve.

Sure, there will be slip-ups on the way, but I believe that the team is growing stronger in its own belief and that is a huge step down the road of success.

Remember York City Knights and their fantastic achievements over a very short period. The hopes and aspirations seemed far-fetched, but Roger Dixon and his group of dedicated lovers of rugby league dared to make it happen and they did with great style.

Come and watch a rebirth and try to spot the next names to deserve to be placed among the greats of the club because if they get us out of the Conference that is what they will be.

Well done to the Supporters' Trust for getting on their learning curve and getting things right on the pitch in difficult circumstances and heavy pressure.
